What happens to your file
Text and valid timing are kept. The converter produces plain text captions and removes formatting. WebVTT cue names, positioning, STYLE/REGION/NOTE blocks and ASS effects cannot all survive in another format; the result lists the relevant changes.
No upload needed
This file tool runs in your browser. The file contents are not sent to our server. You can use up to 2 MB of subtitle text and 10,000 cues. Video projects use a separate cloud workflow if you choose to open the video editor.
Check the result before using it
Use the built-in example, inspect the preview and download the file. Overlapping subtitles are reported rather than silently retimed. The editor or video platform you import into controls the final appearance.

Do I need an account?
No. This local file tool is free to use without an account. Video project plans and their limits are separate.
Will this generate subtitles from audio?
No. File conversion uses the words and timing already in your subtitle file. Use the video workspace to generate subtitles from speech.
